Having previously designed original art for my Flaming Fish surfboard – and been quite pleased with the results – I wanted to create new artwork for a craft suited to a broader variety of waves. At 6’10” x 20.75″ x 2.875″ this custom design is versatile in surf of differing power, from waist high to slightly overhead.

Myself
The Man in the Gray Suit is a surfer’s euphemism for a great white shark. Conceptually, I consciously decided to put the shark’s teeth at the fin cluster (as opposed to the nose of the craft) as this is where the board “bites” into the wave. As with the Flaming Fish, my intent was to create functional artwork that would turn heads. What I didn’t count on was that it would turn the head of one particularly aggressive seal. The seal attack is a story for another day…
